The Best Kitchen Blinds

If you want to give your kitchen an immediate lift, try installing some new kitchen blinds. Not all types of blinds suit kitchens, however there are quite a few that will not only be very serviceable in the kitchen, but that look great too.

First you will need to decide what type of material your blinds should be made from. Normally, wood or timber blinds are not that suitable for a kitchen due to the humidity and steam that you find there. Wood will swell and warp if exposed to too much moisture. An alternative, which usually does fine in a kitchen, are blinds made from faux wood. They are often heavier than actual wood blinds but they stand up to damp or humid conditions much better. Depending on your kitchen décor, you may find that faux wood venetian blinds, with their stained wood appearance, really add to a homey atmosphere. If you need more light in the kitchen during the day it is fairly simple to hoist them up so that the entire window is exposed.

Another type of blind that suits kitchen environments is the Roman blind. These can be made from many different materials, including fabric, vinyl and even bamboo. Bamboo does not do that well in humid environments however, as even if treated it can tend to become moldy fairly quickly. Vinyl Roman blinds are perfect for a kitchen. They are easy to clean and are not damage by humidity.

When choosing blinds for the kitchen one thing that needs to be taken into consideration is how easy they are to clean. You do not necessarily want fabric Roman blinds unless you are able to launder them in the washing machine. Generally, kitchen blinds require cleaning more often, and more heavy cleaning than blinds in other parts of the home due to the grease and moisture in the air.
