Making Roman Shades is Easy

If you have some sewing skills it might be very easy when it comes to making roman shades. The first step is to pick the window that you are making the shades for. These shades are wonderful for small windows but can be made to look good in a larger window as well. These shades do not hide as much as a window curtain would. These are great for use inside of a window shade. The thing you want to make sure of is that you have proper size for you window. You will want to select your material and cut it and the lining to be around four inches on the wide side and eight and a half inches on the long side. This will allow you ample room to add hems.

You now want to fold in two inches for your hem at the sides and bottom side of the material. You can now use your hand sewing skills to sew the hem. You willwant to leave one quarter of an inch toward the sides so that you can put in wooden dowl rods or whatever. On the sides and bottoms you want to make a three eights inch hem. You would do this onwith the material that you are using to line your shades. Use cotton to hold the dowls into place. cut this into strips. Make your markings so you know where to place these rods when you are ready for them. It should be ten inches from the top on the first one and between eight to twelve on the rest. Add the cotton and stitch them up.

The last steps are to take some flexible wood and near the top of the shade start to roll the fabric into it around six and one half inches from up top. Staple it and add a place to lock your cord. Add your rings which are circles that you sew to the material at the middle and sides. Put your cord through and you have just made your first set of Roman shades. See how easy it was when it comes to making roman shades?  However, if you want to make cordless Roman shades, that is a different story altogether!
