A lot of bathrooms have windows, but most people like to cover them for privacy. Bathroom blinds can not only provide privacy, but can also add to the beauty of a bathroom. Blinds come in many different styles and can be a great addition to the look of the room. The blinds that you choose should be able to withstand the conditions that the bathroom will present, such as the heat in the room and moisture in the air. The reason why most people put up blinds is because they are a better choice than drapes, since mold and mildew can start to grow on the drapes due to the moisture and humidity.

Blinds can be made of many different materials. Some of the most popular types include aluminum, vinyl, faux wood, and even bamboo. You should see what type looks best with your bathroom decor and what best fits your style. Wood blinds are not a good option for a bathroom because they can get ruined by the moisture – they are better used in the living room and family room, or even as bedroom or home office blinds.

Once you decide what style you like, the only other thing that you need to consider is the size of the blinds. You want to make sure that the blinds cover the whole window so that you do not lose privacy. It is always better to go larger than smaller to cover the edges. If you want to make your windows a bit more elegant, you can enhance the blinds by adding some decorative accessories, such as tassels, jewels, and fringes or draping a valance over them.

A bathroom can be a person’s own private sanctuary, and privacy is of the utmost importance in this space. Blinds can offer that privacy while also serving as added decoration in the bathroom. They can provide beauty in addition to their functionality.

If you want to give your kitchen an immediate lift, try installing some new kitchen blinds. Not all types of blinds suit kitchens, however there are quite a few that will not only be very serviceable in the kitchen, but that look great too.

First you will need to decide what type of material your blinds should be made from. Normally, wood or timber blinds are not that suitable for a kitchen due to the humidity and steam that you find there. Wood will swell and warp if exposed to too much moisture. An alternative, which usually does fine in a kitchen, are blinds made from faux wood. They are often heavier than actual wood blinds but they stand up to damp or humid conditions much better. Depending on your kitchen décor, you may find that faux wood venetian blinds, with their stained wood appearance, really add to a homey atmosphere. If you need more light in the kitchen during the day it is fairly simple to hoist them up so that the entire window is exposed.

Another type of blind that suits kitchen environments is the Roman blind. These can be made from many different materials, including fabric, vinyl and even bamboo. Bamboo does not do that well in humid environments however, as even if treated it can tend to become moldy fairly quickly. Vinyl Roman blinds are perfect for a kitchen. They are easy to clean and are not damage by humidity.

When choosing blinds for the kitchen one thing that needs to be taken into consideration is how easy they are to clean. You do not necessarily want fabric Roman blinds unless you are able to launder them in the washing machine. Generally, kitchen blinds require cleaning more often, and more heavy cleaning than blinds in other parts of the home due to the grease and moisture in the air.

A homeowner may want to start decorating his newly bought home as soon as he enters it. If the house has many windows, then all of them should be covered. The homeowner may lookout for curtain rods if he decides to purchase curtains for the windows. Long time ago, there were not too many choices regarding the style or types of rods. During the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries, only wooden curtain rods or rods made of metal frames were available. The metal rods were available only in two colors i.e. black and white whereas the wooden ones were either plain or stained in light, medium or dark colors.

However, many new types of decorative curtain rods are seen to be sold at popular home decorating stores, mass retailers and hardware stores. You have a wide range of options to choose from such as café rods, wide, magnetic, crystal clear, spring tensions and bay window curtain rods.

Café rods are available in a metal, wooden brass or nickel finish. These types of curtain rods are available in varying sizes like 1 ½ inch, 7/16 inch, ¾ inch and a 5/8 inch. This specific type of rod is used where windows have curtains positioned in the middle of the window. As a result, the top portion of the window will be exposed while the café rod and curtain will cover the bottom part. Prices of this type of curtain rod vary, ranging from $41 to over $100. The prices depend on the length, type and quality of the material used for interior designing purposes.

Springs are present in spring tension rods which allow the rods to expand and contract so as to fit into a particular doorway or window perfectly. These rods are usually available in round or oval shapes and in different sizes, such as 7/16 inch, 2 ½ inch, ¾ inch and 1 inch too. Prices vary according to the style and material a homeowner prefers. The prices for these rods start from $6 to $30.

Valances or bay windows can make use of wide sized rods. Like the name suggests, these are wide, colored in white and made of metal. 2 ½ inch to 4 ½ inches are the sizes in which these curtain rods are available. These curtains rods are available as a continental or Dauphine Flat valance too. Prices of these rods range from $4 to $50.

For homeowners or business owners who have a window or doorway framed in steel, magnetic curtain rods might just be the perfect choice for them. Being attached to the steel frame, the magnetic rods will give the door or window a stylish look. Many different types of curtains can be held by the strong magnets. You can avail these magnetic rods in shades like pewter, antique brown, antique gold and the traditional black and white. The prices for these magnetic rods range from $16 to $35.

Crystal clear rods are just like their names suggests, clear. It means if a sheer curtain is placed trough a crystal clear rod, the rod will not be visible as the rod itself is clear. These rods are very effective in hiding them from the homeowner’s sight. This type of rod is available in sizes of 7 to 11 ½ inches and 20 to 36 inches. Prices for these rods start as low as $4 and go up to $50.

Ultimately, it is very important for a home owner or a designer to buy the perfect curtain rods. Modern styles and designs need not be plain white or black metal, you can buy rods that have decorative ends on it known as finials. Finials may come in shapes such as round, square, triangle, fruit shape and many other styles to match with the room or home. You can get these in an array of colors too. Because of the many colors available in curtain rods, we can buy rods in pewter, antique gold and antique brown colors too.

Summer is here and it’s time to enjoy all that sunlight. The drabness of the winter is gone and the earth is alive with light. Don’t you just feel better in the sun? It’s a great feeling, but as usual too much of a good thing can be harmful. Letting the sun into your home is good, but it can heat up your home, plus the sun can cause fading on your carpet and furniture. You don’t want to keep the shades down, that makes the home dark and depressing. One solution is to install opaque window film onto your window.

Opaque glass film is a very thin piece of plastic that you apply to a window, sidelight or patio door. It comes in different size lengths and widths depending on your needs. Simply cut to size and apply and you’re done.

Instead of replacing your windows, using frosted window film can improve the look of your windows while cutting down on energy costs. Using window film to limit the amount of UV rays coming into your home can save you money, plus help stop the fading of you rug and sofa due to the sun beating on it all day.

Installing opaque window is rather a simple job. To make installation easier, it helps to have a friend help you. Fours hands are much better than 2 hands when doing this job.

There are many different window films to choose from. You can find window film in just a plain white frosted design to intricate patterns. You can find window film that looks like ornate and expensive stained glass windows.

Don’t want to cover the entire window? Then you can use window film a border around windows. Maybe use a pattern like palm trees on your patio sliding glass door. It decorates the glass door while giving you privacy and blocking those UV rays.

If you’re tired of the sun causing your furniture or carpets to fade, take a look at opaque window film to prevent that in the future.

Although often seen as one of the most annoying household chores, window cleaning is a task that needs to be carried out. Furthermore, whilst considered a minor irritant in life, there is a lot to consider when deciding to clean windows.

The most common question that is first posed when considering window cleaning is whether to carry out the chore yourself or hire a professional to complete the window cleaning. Each option has many of its own benefits, with no real option standing out as the primary winner. For example, one of the main benefits to hiring a professional window cleaner is to save time. As a professional will carry out window cleaning all day long, they become experts in both speed and effectiveness, allowing them to clean a whole house of windows in approximately half the time it would take the average homeowner. Furthermore, professional window cleaners will often clean windows throughout the day and during a normal working week, allowing for the homeowner to not have to take a percentage out of their cherished weekend to clean their home’s windows.

The second point that has to be noted is that whilst hiring a professional window cleaner may be more time efficient, it can be quite costly. For a normal sized semi-detached house with three bedrooms, a window cleaner will charge in the region of $30 to $80 or more. It may not seem a considerable amount at once, but if they came every two weeks, over the year it would amount to between a considerable $780 and $2080. When considering water is effectively free and cleaning solutions can have a minimal price tag, you could, in theory, save yourself hundreds of pounds by deciding to clean your windows yourself.

A professional window cleaner will generally have their own favorite type of cleaning products and accessories. Although professional cleaning products are considered to be better than normal household products, it is very easy, with a little research, to match if not better these products. Some of the best window cleaning solutions are of the homemade variety, which can have a very inexpensive price tag. Each home window cleaner will have their own personal window cleaning solution, although one of the most popular ones has been passed down over several generations. Mixing together a tablespoon of vinegar and a tablespoon of cornstarch, add a few drops of lemon juice and approximately half a tablespoon of white wine vinegar. Add this to a bucket of warm water and it will ensure that your windows are not only clean, but sparkling and glimmering in the daylight.

It has to be noted that whilst many people opt to clean their own windows rather than hiring a professional, in some cases it is far more beneficial to hire a professional window cleaner, particularly if the house has many windows, or, for example, a conservatory. The time, effort and money needed to clean a large amount of windows effectively are not generally worth it and a professional window cleaner should be hired.

There are a number of different techniques you can implement to clean the carpets in your home. Each technique has its advantages and disadvantages which is why it is best to get advice from a professional when deciding which carpet cleaning method is best suited for your particular carpets. You will also find that the best carpet cleaner will not be the same machine for all types of carpets.

Amongst the most popular methods for cleaning carpets are dry cleaning, steam cleaning and shampoo cleaning. Each of these techniques is better suited to different types of stains.

Steam cleaning is the most common technique used and it is also known as hot water extraction. This technique uses a wet vacuum that has a hot water cleaning solution and the majority of professional carpet cleaners use this option. Experts will use a high powered steam cleaning device, perhaps even a truck mount, in order to draw out the dirt from deep within the carpet. The truck mount is popular because of its convenience and thought to be one of the best carpet steam cleaners.

Some people are not sure whether to use spray, steam or water when cleaning carpets. The majority of the time a fine spray is used at the front of the vacuum, this helps to break down the dirt particles on the carpet. A vacuum cleaner is then used to suck up all of this dirt. For steam cleaning the water has detergent added, it is then sprayed into the carpet.

Many carpet cleaners prefer dry cleaning because it is the safest technique, it is the next most popular method after steam cleaning. Dry powder is placed on the carpet, this powder leaves no soap residue. Organic is the favored type of powder due to its safety, although there are a number of other options you can use.

Shampoo cleaning is also a common technique used for carpet cleaning. With shampoo cleaning the shampoo is used to soak up dirt from the carpets, once it has soaked up the dirt a high powered machine is used to remove it. With shampoo cleaning the main advantage is how much faster the carpet will dry as compared to the other techniques.

Although our site focuses on window cleaning, we often get requests for speciality cleaning projects. One of the most frequent requests is for information on Marble cleaning in high-end homes and office buildings. So, we’ve written a special article specifically for this.

When it comes to cleaning most surfaces in your home, you probably just break out the bottle of Mr. Clean or Pine-Sol, but some surfaces require special attention, for example marble. Marble countertops and floors require special attention, and are somewhat different than others. There are a few ways of approach to clean marble.

Since marble is a rock, a metamorphic rock composed of calcium carbonate to be exact; its particles are exposed to many sources of wear and tear in the home. The best way to clean marble is to use a cloth, preferably cotton or a shammy to rid the top surface of large particles. Hot water can also be used, but marble has a tendency to stain, so make sure that the water is dried by hand and not air dried. Household cleaners should not be used on marble because of the chemical reactions that can occur by using an acidic or basic cleaner. Unless the cleaner is pH neutral, such as soap, it shouldn’t be used unless the water is not finishing the job. Also, depending on the color of the marble, other substances may be used. If the color of the marble is a lighter shade, hydrogen peroxide may be used, or if it is darker, acetone.

How to clean marble: If a stain does occur, make a cleaner of your own, by mixing water and baking powder to form a consistency of peanut butter to dab onto the stain. Cover with plastic and let sit overnight, the stain should be removed. If not, use a small quantity of a store brand marble cleaner to attempt to remove the stain. This should be used minimally due to the possibility of the cleaner having a strong pH. Preventative measures can also be taken such as not placing glasses onto the counter without a coaster, or not pouring liquids such as orange juice or soda into glasses on the counter.

When cleaning marble, whether after the kids or before having guests over, be sure to use the proper methods. Watch for store bought cleaners, and use homemade remedies, such as those listed above. Marble is a delicate surface that requires special attention and care to maintain and clean.

Whether it’s a home owner cleaning their windows on a weekend every few weeks, or a professional window cleaner who cleans hundreds of windows each day, they all have their own preferred way to clean windows.

For many home owner window cleaners, their preferred method of cleaning is to use a homemade solution. One of the easiest, although not most effective, is the simple mixture of a bucket of warm water with a small amount of washing up liquid. Cheap and effective (to an extent), this mixture is favored by many usually purely for the fact that is cheap and cleans windows to an acceptable degree. You have to be a little careful that you don’t use this on speciality windows as it can leave serious streaks; for example, it does not work well on uPVC windows.

However, cleaning windows with washing up liquid and water, after a while, begins to leave windows looking greasy or streaky. After a search on the internet, a look in a local book store or library or speaking to a friend, most home owners will opt for a much more traditional way of cleaning windows. Although on first looking at the ingredients it doesn’t sound as effective as using warm water and washing up liquid, cleaning windows using newspaper, water and vinegar can have fantastic results. Mixing the vinegar with water in a strong ratio (approximately 1 part vinegar for every 4 parts of water), apply to the windows with an appropriate cloth, such as a chamois and dry then buff with crumpled up pieces of newspaper. Whilst a little more effort may be needed on stubborn marks, this process of cleaning windows has worked for many years and is one of the most used ways of cleaning windows all across the world.

Even though most home owner window cleaners do not use any accessories, taking note of the tools professional window cleaners use may help the window cleaning process. For example, it is often said that any non-professional window cleaner should own a squeegee. A squeegee is a tool that is in the shape of a ‘T’ – with the horizontal line being a rubber, windscreen wiper-like blade and the vertical line being a handle – that provides some amazing assistance when cleaning windows. Once the windows are wet and any marks have been removed, the squeegee should be moved over the window, from top to bottom, to remove any excess water. It may seem simple, but using a squeegee will almost guarantee that the window is left streak and smudge free.

One of the more modern ways to clean windows is to use a steamer. Available for use all around the home, they make excellent work of windows – regardless of how clean or dirty the windows are. Fill the steamer with water, plug it in, allow for it to boil and then use the connecting hose and accessory on the window. The steam produced will remove any marks from the window and, once moved over with a squeegee, will leave them looking brand new and as though they have just been cleaned by a professional window cleaner.

Whether you’re a professional window cleaner or simply someone who likes to make sure that their windows are as clean as they can possibly be, there are several essential accessories that you are going to need to carry out window cleaning effectively.

Water – without water, cleaning windows is almost impossible. Fresh, clean, warm water provides the basis for almost all cleaning solutions. Whether homemade or professional, the majority of window cleaning solutions will involve, to some degree, a large amount of warm water.

However, it must be noted that in recent years there have been several window cleaning solutions created that require no diluting with water whatsoever. Still in their infancy, these products are designed to not only allow for remarkably clean windows, but to reduce the amount of water needed to clean windows – which can be considerable, particularly for professional window cleaners.

Bucket – Whilst water may be the primary component to any window cleaning solution, having something to put that water in is obviously another major requirement. Although many people simply opt to use their bowl from their kitchen sink, a strong bucket is highly recommended. The tough, sturdy handle will allow for the bucket to be moved between places safely, whilst the added depth (when compared to a kitchen bowl), will mean that more water can be transported around the building, resulting in a reduction in time when cleaning windows.

Sponge / chamois – Having a high quality sponge, chamois or other cloth will aid with the window cleaning process tremendously. With many dedicated window cleaning cloths on the market, a lot of window cleaners simply recommended a quality cleaning cloth. Personal preference is usually the only way to distinguish between a sponge and a chamois in regards to window cleaning, although many believe that the sponge’s texture is a better attribute for cleaning windows.

Squeegee – in essence, a squeegee is simply a windscreen wiper with a handle on it. The idea behind the squeegee is to move it over the window once it has been cleaned using a sponge. Moved from left to right, top to bottom, the squeegee will reduce the amount of streaks or smudges that appear on many windows after cleaning and in most cases will ensure there are no marks left at all.

Ladder – like the squeegee, a ladder is not a mandatory accessory for cleaning windows. However, a ladder can be extremely helpful, not only when cleaning second floor and above windows, but simply for the extra height they provide when cleaning ground floor windows. It may be easy to effectively clean the majority of a ground floor window, but it is difficult to reach and clean properly in the top corners, which is where a ladder provides that extra assistance, ensuring no marks are left on the window once the window cleaning process has been completed.

Will and intention – Without good will or the intention of carrying out a good job, window cleaning will become a chore that is only half-heartedly completed. Thinking about the task in hand and not rushing window cleaning will ensure that all windows cleaned are as clean as they can possibly be.
